2561.Sam has been appointed
發(fā)布:2024/5/23 20:38:36組卷:1引用:2難度:0.82562.Read the passage and look up the underlined words in the dictionary. Then answer the question.
Australia, the smallest continent and one of the largest countries on Earth,is located between the Pacific and Indian oceans to the south of the equator. It has been called the Oldest Continent only in the sense that it was the last continent, apart from Antarctica,to be explored by Europeans. At least 60,000 years ago,the first Aboriginal explorers arrived from Asia, and by 20,000 years ago they had spread throughout the mainland. When Captain Arthur Phillip of the British Royal Navy landed with the First Fleet at Botany Bay in 1788,there may have been between 250,000 and 500,000 Aborigines.
Australia's long isolation from other continents explains much of the singularity of its plant and animal life. Its unique flora and fauna (動(dòng)植 物 ) include hundreds of kinds of eucalyptus(桉樹(shù)) trees and the only egg-laying mammals on earth, the duck-billed platypus and echidna(針鼴鼠) .Other plants and animals associated with Australia are dingoes, kangaroos, and koalas. The Great Barrier Reef, off the east coast of Queensland,is the greatest mass of coral in the world and one of the world's premier iconic attractions.
Historically part of the British Empire and now a member of the Commonwealth,Australia is a prosperous independent country.Extremely remote from their traditional allies and trading partners of Great Britain and the United States— some 12,000 miles from Australia to Great Britain and about 7,000 miles to the west coast of the United States—Australians have become more interested in the huge potential markets in Asia and in the highly competitive industrialised economies of China,Japan, and South Korea.Australia, the continent and the country, may have been quite isolated at the beginning of the 20th century, but it entered the 21st century as a culturally diverse land filled with confidence,an attitude encouraged by the worldwide fascination with the land"Down Under"and demonstrated when Sydney hosted the 2000 Olympic Games.

發(fā)布:2024/5/23 20:38:36組卷:0引用:2難度:0.72567.Finding a job is difficult. But what might be even more untoward is figuring out how to get used to the new environment that you are working in when you do finally manage to get a new job. Here are some tips for dealing with the adjustment period.
Be friendly to people.Any job is better when you are friendly of the people that you are working with. You should be friendly to everyone that you are meeting.Actually listen to what these people tell you. Most people like making friends with those who are willing to listen.
Stay positive. One of the things that makes it difficult to adjust to a new job is negativity. If you automatically(無(wú)意識(shí)地) make judgments about things at the office that you aren't going to like, then you're going to find it difficult to approach the job with a positive attitude.Try to focus on the things that you like about the work and stay away from anyone that is saying negative things on the job.
Keep relaxed.Accept the fact that you probably aren't going to get used to the new job immediately. You are going to make some mistakes. You are going to get confused or you're going to confuse others by doing things different from what they're used to.Be relaxed. The thing that you really need to get used to a new job,is just time.
Getting used to a new job or a new work environment isn't easy, but it doesn't have to be particularly difficult either.Get to know the people that you are working with and the unspoken rules of the place by paying attention to what is going on around you and accepting that it's going to take some time to get used to it all! After you have adjusted to your new job,the way to do the job well is coming to the first question.
(1)The underlined word "untoward" in Paragrap 1 probably means
A.difficult.
B.impressive.

A.a(chǎn)sking for others' help.
B.copying others' behavior.
C.following others' instructions.
D.noticing what's going on in the workplace.
(3)If the passage continues, what may be talked about?
A.How to keep relaxed.

D.The importance of adjusting to your new job.
(4)What would be the best title for this passage?
