  • 2.When people sit together at night and enjoy the glorious moon,an ancient poem,Prelude to Water Melody,is often read for this occasion.Critics say it's probably the best poem about the Mid-Autumn Festival.Let's just focus on its most famous five lines to make some analysis.
In the first two lines of the five, the writer is comparing the life of a man with the changing face of the moon.In Chinese culture the moon is always considered to be a perfect carrier of emotions like nostalgia(懷舊)ad longing for family reunion.A full moon symbolizes perfection and unity, while a gloomy night may remind people of their misfortunes. When the moon is round and fair but people are separated from their loved ones, such moments can be even more heartbreaking.
Before the comparison, the poet actually complains about the seemingly "ruthless(無情的)" moon and asks her:You should have no spite(怨恨)against man,but why, when people part, are you often full and bright? However,he soon realizes that no one has an easy ride, just like the moon may not always be bright. The imperfections have been going on since the beginning of time. That's why he says "There has been nothing perfect since the olden days."
But should we get bogged down(陷入)by the suffering of things with which we can't change? The poet gives his answer:Change your attitude and stay positive. So,we have his everlasting line,"_____." The poet hopes that people appreciate the fact that no matter where they are,as long as the ones they love and miss are healthy and happy, they can all admire the same moon high in the sky.
To this day, people still use this verse to express their good will and wishes for family members and friends who can't be with them, especially during major festivals.

(1)What does the passage mainly talk about?

A.How we can appreciate Chinese poetry about the Mid-Autumn Day.

C.What made a poet write the best ever Mid-Autumn Day Chinese poem.
D.Why a poem is the peak of Chinese poetry about the Mid-Autumn Day.
(2)Why does the poet write "nothing is perfect since the olden day" in the poem?

A.He doesn't understand why the moon hates humans.
B.He knows eventually the moon will become full again.
C.He realizes life is always accompanied by imperfections.
D.He understands life is too ruthless and has lost his interest in it.
(3)Which of the following lines is the most suitable for the blank in Paragraph4?

A.How long will the full moon appear?Wine cup in hand I ask the sky.
    B.Looking up,I find the moon bright;bowing,in homesickness I'm drowned
C.In spring the river rises as high as the sea;with the river's tide uprises the moon bright.
D.May we all be blessed with a long life;miles apart,we'll share the beauty,of the moon together.

    .
    A.is a very optimistic poet

  • 3.Scientists have been studying Antarctica(南極洲)for over a century, but details as basic as what it looks like beneath all that ice have largely remained a mystery. Now,Earther reports that a team of scientists from Denmark,Norway, the Netherlands, and the UK has published the most detailed data yet on the continent's subglacial topography(冰川下的地形)near the South Pole.
As they report in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, central Antarctica is home to three large canyons(峽谷),one of which is deeper than the Grand Canyon and nearly as wide at some points. The researchers made the discovery by flying a plane with radar over the South Pole,a spot that isn't covered by satellites. They expected to find mountains beneath the ice sheet, but the wide canyons they found between the mountains came as a surprise.
Of the three canyons, two hadn't been documented previously. The largest, the Foundation Trough(基礎(chǔ)槽),measures 218 miles long,up to 22 miles wide, and 6,260 feet deep, putting it up there with the planet's most impressive canyons.
The discoveries are significant on their own,but the real purpose behind the research is to better understand how the West and East Antarctic ice sheets will react to rising temperatures.Human-caused climate change has made some of the continent's ice not firm, and the West Antarctic ice sheet especially has been slowly melting to the sea.If patterns continue, the coastal glaciers supporting the large ice sheets could fall down, causing sea levels to rise a minimum of 10 feet.If this happens, the canyons could be a major factor in the speed and direction of ice flow from central Antarctica to the coast.
The event isn't likely to happen in the near future, but further study of Antarctica's topography will allow scientists to better predict when it might.

(1)Which of the following have scientists known little?

    A.The shape of Antarctica ice.
    B.The condition of Antarctica ice.
    C.The Grand Canyon.
    D.The beneath of Antarctica ice.
(2)Which of the following is found by a plane with radar?

    A.The Grand Canyon.
    B.The mountains.
    C.Three large canyons.
    D.Ice sheets.
(3)How do the scientists feel about finding the wide canyons?

    A.Unexpected.
    B.Interesting.
    C.Ridiculous.
    D.Common.
(4)What's the aim of the study?

    A.To document the three canyons.
B.To find out how large the three canyons are.
C.To know how ice sheets react to rising temperatures.
D.To show the importance of the three canyons.

第二節(jié)

  • 9.Shoes are made for walking.
But Aamir,a homeless Indian boy, doubted it.Wandering the noisy railway platform,he found one of his flip-flops (人字拖鞋) broken again. He hurried to a corner, sat down and tried to fix it,his bare foot pressing awkwardly against the ground. However,it was beyond repair.
He gave up and looked around aimlessly, staring at people's shoes.Suddenly, his eyes were drawn to two boyish legs wearing flawlessly white socks and equally perfect black leather shoes, which were glittering in the mid-day sun.It was a boy of his age.He couldn't treasure his possession too much, obviously, because every ten seconds,he stopped, bent down and carefully wiped a dust or two from his shoes. His father was constantly glancing over and urging him, "Hurry up!The train is coming!"
Aamir's eyes followed the father and son,but mostly the leather shoes,as if enchanted (被施魔法的).Imagining himself wearing them, the comfort from the good leather,jaw-dropping look on his friends' faces,he couldn't help cracking a big smile.
The bell of the train drew him back;the fancy-shoe boy and his father were about to get aboard. They tried to crowd into the doorway. However, the instant the boy entered the compartment (車廂),one of his shoes fell off and before he could pick it up,the train began to pull away.
The shoe was now lying alone on the platform.Aamir's eyes lit up with excitement.Like an arrow,he shot for the shoe and then picked it up,holding it with both hands as if holding the Queen's crown. After a few seconds of hesitating and looking from the shoe to the train and back,he began racing--with only one good shoe, his flip-flop.
He held the leather shoe up,trying to pass it to the boy through the window, who was desperately reaching out his hand as well. However,it was never close enough.
Para 1:That left Aamir no choice but to throw the shoe onto the train.
    ______
Para 2:But when he raised his head,Aamir saw the other shoe thrown out of the window.
