2.Switzerland gave me my first real job.Not a summer job.It was the job that would pay bills. When I arrived 3 years ago,I really didn't like to work.Working was something that I had to do while saving my energy for my private life.
I started teaching French in a completely wrong way.I arrived at the classroom late and breathlessly and was totally unprepared for the lessons,I didn't know anything about French grammar and had never studied to be a French teacher - I studied law.I considered the job as something I would do before starting my real career as a lawyer (律師) or whatever.
But teaching took me by surprise. As I wasn't interested in working.I had never thought this job could bring me any difference. However, with time going by,I liked meeting different people every day.I learned to work on myself to become professional (專業(yè)的).It became a spontaneous thing to love teaching.
I am still a bit messy in my lessons and can be a few minutes late. When my students complain about it,I turn it into a joke,"It's not my fault.I'm French! If you want to learn with a real French teacher, you have to put up with the mess." And it works. Most of the time,my students laugh and make fun of me.
Usually, the Swiss don't complain about anything easily. When they do that, they must be well considered. And they often try to make it in a friendly manner so that you won't get upset too much.Though I lived and worked in Switzerland.I don't want to become the perfect Swiss worker. If I don't like something,I go to my boss and tell him openly.
In a word,Switzerland is the perfect place to learn how to become professional.I don't think I would be able to keep any job like I had done at the start.I am grateful that my students and employers were patient enough to give me a chance.

3.David and Amir first met in their chemistry class at an American university.Amir was an international student from Jordan. He wanted to learn more about American culture and hoped that he and David would become good friends. At first,David seemed very friendly. He always greeted Amir warmly before class.Sometimes he offered to study with Amir.He even invited Amir to have lunch with him.But after the term was over,David seemed distant. The two former classmates didn't see each other very much at school. One day Amir decided to call David.David didn't seem very interested in talking to him.Amir was hurt by David's change of attitude because he thought friends should be friends forever.
As a foreigner,he doesn't understand the way Americans view friendship.Americans use the word "friend" in a very general way.Their friendships are based on common interests. When the shared activity ends, the friendship may be gone. Now as David and Amir are no longer classmates, their friendship has changed. In some cultures, friendship means a strong lifelong bond between two people. In these cultures, friendships develop slowly, since they are built to last.American society is one of rapid change.Studies show that one out of five American families move every year.American friendships develop quickly, and they may change just quickly as well.People from America may at first seem friendly.Americans often chat easily with strangers. But American friendliness is not always an offer of true friendship. After an experience like Amir's people who've been in this country for only a few months may consider Americans to be changeable.Learning how Americans view friendship can help non-Americans avoid misunderstandings. It can also help them make friends in the American way.
