3.One night,my family was driving back from visiting my uncle in the middle of a bad snowstorm.
The road was normally two lanes(車道) going in each direction, but there was so much snow that it was down to one lane.We were scared, but we felt safe, because my father used to work as a truck driver. He's a very safe driver.
We were all alone on the highway until three cars pulled up right behind us.They flashed their lights and beeped their horns(喇叭),wanting to get by us,but there was no place for us to pull over.
After a while,we stopped at a restaurant to wait for the storm to calm down. The three cars behind us pulled in,too. They were full of teenagers. They were talking about how slow we were driving. One of them said loudly enough for us to hear, "If you don't know how to drive, you shouldn't be on the highway."
Soon after, the teenagers left even though the storm was getting worse. My father decided that we should wait inside, hoping the storm would become weaker.
After it cleared a little,we headed down the road. Finally we came around a bend(彎道).We could not believe the three cars were all in the ditch(溝)!
Dad ran to the cars. The kids were all okay, but they were freezing and very frightened.A police officer arrived and took some of the kids to the next gas station. We gave two of them a ride.
It was a very quiet drive. My dad turned to the teenager driver and said with a little smile, "You know,if you don't know how to drive, you should stay off the road."
The boy was very embarrassed. My dad smiled and said, "I was a truck driver for fifteen years and we had a saying: There are old drivers and there are bold(敢于冒險的) drivers, but there aren't any old bold drivers"

4.By the year 2050,it is said that the world's population will reach nine billion. With such a large population to feed, what should we do to provide everyone with enough food in the future? What will happen if everyone needs more meat in the diet?Food supply is going to be a big headache.
Australian journalist and science writer,Julian Cribb, explains the challenges.Cribb says there is a major problem in the current food system, especially in the developed world. As more and more people move towards city centers, the less and less they know about where their food comes from. Most think food simply grows on supermarket shelves, and they don't consider the environmental effects of food production.
Food also has many hidden costs:huge amount of water, energy, and land degradation (退化).Consumers add their own costs by simply throwing away a lot of food. The figures for food waste in West are surprising.
To solve this problem of public ignorance(無知)about food,Cribb suggests that food should be taught as a subject at primacy school. This would help to create a future generation that could better deal with the world's coming food challenges. This powerful measure can help them become more educated consumers, more productive farmers, and so on.
Cribb offers other solutions and suggestions as well. One is to increase the money for agriculture(農(nóng)業(yè))research, which has not been taken seriously so far.He also suggests organic(有機(jī)的)fanning should be understood on a scientific basis.People should change their fixed thinking and get the very best out of organic farming systems.By doing so,we may know how to stop wasting water and learn how to grow food more cheaply.Besides,Cribb asks all consumers to eat more fruits and vegetables.Compared with meats, they take less time and water to grow so that they are much greener as food and more friendly to the environment.

5.Just like any relationship, best friendships depend on trust, promise, respect and interests. When any of these elements is missing, the friendship will be hard to go on.If the trust is totally broken, you may not be able to forgive him or her.Sometimes a friendship ends because either you or your friend gets tired of putting the heart into it.This can happen when one of you finds a new friend or even a new hobby that takes up much time.Or,perhaps you find the relationship is always going in an unhealthy way and you want some distance.Other times, you simply change and want to leave each other.Sure,it seems sad at the time, but it's completely normal. Not all friendships are meant to last forever. So,what should you do if something like this happens to you?Read on for some friendly advice.
Whatever the reason you're breaking up with your best friend, always remember that he or she was once super important to you.Take the time to sit down privately and tell him/her what's going on and why.Don't send him or her an unpleasant e-mail or just start ignoring (不理睬) him or her.In fact, maybe he or she has known there's a problem and would be willing to have a heart-to-heart chat.If you're not sure about wanting an end forever, you could suggest you two take a break from each other. If,after a while, you realize why you became the best friends in the beginning, you can try getting back to your former behaviors.Whatever you do,be honest about your feelings while having respect for his or hers. And if you both agree the BFF thing is over, make sure not to be enemies.
